The Magnormos Musical Theatre Trivia Night
Tuesday April 26th 2005
Capers Melbourne
As the
booming strains of the 'Annie Get Your Gun' overture hushed the crowd, an
overhead voice welcomed the guests to the inaugural Magnormos Musical Theatre
Trivia Night, and introduced them to their host for the evening - Julia Zemiro...
Friendly
competition and social interaction ran on high
at the inaugural Musical Theatre Trivia Night,
with a veritable 'who's who' of Australian music theatre making up most of
the competitors. The stunning interior of Capers Melbourne was awash with colour, vitality and familiar faces, all battling it out for the mantle of
Melbourne's top music-theatre fan.
11
teams waged war through six categories: "Introductions", "Sir Andrew",
"Movie Musicals", "Rodgers and H", "Stephen Squared" and
"Song Scramble" with plenty of opportunity for bonus points and
individual prizes throughout, interspersed with performances by Melbourne's
own international diva - Pastel Vespa.
Whilst
the scores were frighteningly close, the Trump Team for the event was 'Sha-Boom'
winning by a mere half point to second place winner 'The Tall Show Queens',
followed closely by 'A-List'. At first thought disadvantaged with
only 7 members in their crew, Sha-Boom walked away with the major
prize pack including bottles of wine, CD Soundtracks, Souvenir programs, CD
Vouchers, and much more.
In
the final test of music-theatre mettle, "Knockout - One Fan Standing"
every competitor was offered the chance to stand and play as individuals,
requiring a steady stream of correct 'yes/no' answers to stay within the
competition (or face elimination). As players fell, the anticipation grew,
and the eliminated competitors watched with interest as the numbers of
people standing diminished. In a final brave battle, it was genetics
student Sally Elliot who wrested the individual title of
'Musical-Theatre-Know-It-All' - AND a major prize consisting of Mamma Mia
tickets and a personally signed Stephen Schwartz pack!
Congratulations
to Sha-Boom, Sally, and all the other players who won the many
prizes awarded throughout the night, and thank you to all who came and
supported the event.
Feedback from the event so far includes:
"I had the most fun I've had in years."
"I had a ball and was thrilled to see such an evening of happiness amongst our
own. I am STILL ebullient!"
"It was a really great event and I cant wait for the next one."
"So glad the winner was a genetics student."
"Bravo and Brava!"
Following the phenomenal success of our inaugural Music Theatre Trivia Night
we are proud to announce our SECOND Music Theatre Trivia Night will be held
on:
Wednesday,
August 10th
at Capers Melbourne
