David co-wrote SHOUT! THE LEGEND OF THE WILD ONE, in 2000 when it
broke box-office records around Australia, also the musical BETTER KNOWN AS BEE,
about Sydney eccentric Bee Miles starring Jan Adele and then Toni Lamond which
proved one of Penrith’s Q Theatre’s most popular and enduring hits.
Most recently, David was co-writer of the successful musical production, DUSTY:
THE ORIGINAL POP DIVA which grossed over twenty million dollars and won four
Helpmann Awards at last year’s ceremony and Melbourne’s Green Room Award for
Best New Australian Production. Plans are afoot for a London season.
David wrote and directed TROPICAL NIGHTS starring Chelsea Brown at Conrad
Jupiters, where his spectacular JEWEL OF THE ORIENT EXPRESS ran for 14 months.
He has written for Barbra Streisand, Bob Hope, Michael Parkinson, Barry
Humphries, Clive James, Gerry Connolly, Geraldine Turner, Maggie Kirkpatrick,
Ronnie Corbett and Danny la Rue.
A prolific freelance television producer, his shows include, THE MIKE WALSH
SHOW, PARKINSON, SATURDAY NIGHT CLIVE, THE DAME EDNA EXPERIENCE, BARRY
HUMPHRIES' FLASHBACKS and THIS IS YOUR LIFE which won top ratings for the Nine
Network for twelve years. He is currently Executive Producer of THE PAM ANN
SHOW, a comedy/interview program to be seen on The Comedy Channel in 2009.
David has co-written the annual Helpmann Awards since their inception. Most
recently he produced Kookaburra’s AN AUDIENCE WITH STEPHEN SONDHEIM, hosted by
Jonathan Biggins and EVER AFTER EVER, the farewell concert for Sydney Dance
company Director, Graeme Murphy, and AN AUDIENCE WITH THE CAST OF WICKED, hosted
by Rob Guest.
David and Melvyn Morrow are currently working with British composer Tony Hatch
on a musical based on Truman Capote’s legendary Black and White Ball.
