THE BEAUTY SPOT - a fast, funny and bitchy black musical comedy about beauty… and ugliness.

THE BEAUTY SPOT had been in development for six years prior to being staged by the Magnormos Music Theatre Readings Program.

THE BEAUTY SPOT was written by New Zealand born writer David W Young, whose credits as a pianist involve many of the major music theatre productions in recent years including ‘Dusty the Original Pop Diva’ and ‘Mamma Mia!’. His original musical ‘Dear Katherine’ reached the finals of the UK Vivian Ellis Prize (1994) and ‘Immaculate Deception’ was produced at the Wimbledon Studio Theatre in London for a highly successful three-week season.

Now based in Australia, David W Young had his sung through adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Happy Prince’ performed in concert by the cast of the ‘Les Miserables’ 10th Anniversary Tour in both Sydney and Melbourne.

THE BEAUTY SPOT was a feature part of OzMade Musicals 2005, an annual showcase to support Australian musical theatre, and from there it was selected for the Magnormos Music Theatre Readings Program in 2006.

THE BEAUTY SPOT was the seventh presentation in the Magnormos Music Theatre Readings Program, the fourth Australian musical in the program- and the FIRST world premiere.
