A biographical musical about Beatrice “Bee” Miles, the wealthy Sydney eccentric who was best known for terrorising taxi drivers by hopping on board and refusing to budge. She once took a cab ride from Sydney to Perth. She would roam the streets of Sydney giving “rational talks” and Shakespearean readings for a silver coin. She dodged committal and arrest and ended her days in Sydney’s Little Sisters of the Poor nursing home in 1973.BETTER KNOWN AS BEE was originally commissioned by NIDA and was twice presented at Sydney’s Q Theatre, smashing box office records both times. Both Jan Adele and Toni Lamond played the part of Bee in Sydney. A Melbourne production played a short season at The Comedy Theatre starring Val Lehman.
