Three rising stars join a modern day circus, only to find themselves trapped in an intricate triangle of love, betrayal and sexuality.


SYNOPSIS Seen through the eyes of the Ringmaster, an intricate love triangle forms between three young rising circus performers as they tour the world in a modern day circus. Life's a Circus tells of tightrope walkers, David and Vivien, falling in love and sharing secret affairs with Alex - the circus clown. Their relationships explore sexuality, trust and betrayal. When Vivien discovers the truth about Alex and David’s relationship, she is torn between a best friend and a lover.



DEVELOPMENT HISTORY: Originally titled Judgement Day, the writing of the lyrics and score began in October 2005. In 2006 a cast recording was completed and LIFE'S A CIRCUS was short-listed for the Pratt Prize for Musical Theatre. In 2007 a ten-minute vignette directed by Jason Langley was featured in the inaugural Short Sweet & Song Festival in Sydney. That same year a concert of reworked songs titled WORDS AND MUSIC FROM LIFE'S A CIRCUS, was staged at Chapel Off Chapel. In April 2008 members of the Asian Touring Company of CATS performed the first full reading of the piece. LIFE'S A CIRCUS has again been short-listed for the 2008 Pratt Prize.
