Pink (VIC)
Music, Book and Lyrics by Joanna White
Debuted OzMade Musicals 2008
Based on true events, Pink is the remarkable story of how one colour can change your life.
SYNOPSIS One fateful day in 1967, Rosie finds someone’s pink dress in her dry-cleaning and on impulse ‘borrows’ it for her holiday in England. This triggers two more ‘pink’ incidents which lead her to her father Jack, who left home when she was a child during WW2. This meeting unleashes long-suppressed emotions, entangling Rosie’s mother Grace and Jack’s second wife Pearl in a web of family secrets and confessions. It takes all Rosie’s inner resources to unravel the truth and rediscover love..
DEVELOPMENT HISTORY: PINK evolved from Joanna’s autobiographical short story published by Penguin. Encouraged to adapt the story for a musical, Joanna wrote four songs with linking text and in 2004 she was invited by Magnormos to perform at the initial ‘On the Drawing Board’ before the Program became part of OzMade Musicals. In 2005, Joanna presented a private reading of the full script and, based on feedback, has since developed her work further.
