Suddenly Single  (QLD)

Music, Book and Lyrics by Peter Pinne and Paul Dellit
Debuted OzMade Musicals 2007

An amusing, but honest look at metro-sexuals and their attitudes to body image, marriage, family , cheating and responsibility.

SYNOPSIS An original, contemporary musical which follows the lives of twenty-something's, Ryan (Electrician), Aaron (IT Specialist) and Luke (S.N.A.P. Sensitive New Age Priest), over a six year period as they negotiate the minefield of love and relationship
s in the world today.

Commencing with the wedding of childhood sweethearts, Ryan and Sarah, and progressing to the point where the guys are all 'suddenly single', to a wrap-up that has them sorting out their lives, SUDDENLY SINGLE shows us that relationships aren't easy. Some of them work, some of them don't, but it's nice to be in one… And it beats being single!

DEVELOPMENT HISTORY: SUDDENLY SINGLE was conceived in 2006 over our weekly cup of coffee when we were working on MAVIS BRAMSTON - RELOADED. The idea of three young guys being 'suddenly single' appealed to us. We thought a show about relationships in a contemporary world, looking at them from a young male point of view, could be different. It also would allow us to reference pop culture in an amusing way. Work commenced on the project January 8th, 2007 and the first draft of the book, music and lyrics were completed by June 30, 2007. We then produced demos of six songs from the score, two with full backings. "Making A Difference" premiered at a concert of musical theatre songs by BMTU (Brisbane Musical Theatre United), July 7th, 2007, when it closed the show sung by Luke Kennedy with the company. The same song was sung by a quartet of tenors in the Brisbane "Hats Off" concert at Twelfth Night Theatre, December 9th, 2007, and will be released commercially in 2008. (Peter Pinne)
