Summer Rain (NSW)
Music by Terence Clarke
Book and Lyrics by Nick Enright
Featured OzMade Musicals 2007
On
Christmas Day 1945 a stranded tent-show troupe reaches a drought-stricken
outback town. Increasing hostility between the showies and the townfolk is
broken by the arrival of the longed-for miracle of rain. Trapped there for nine
days by floods, the Slocums put on a show for the town, and the two groups are
forced to confront long buried secrets and old hurts.
First commissioned by NIDA for the 1983 graduating students, SUMMER RAIN has had
major productions by the Sydney Theatre Company and Queensland Theatre Company
