"Magnormos doesn't fail the slick standards we've come to expect, and its new musical packs a gruesome punch" Cameron Woodhead, The Age, 2011
THE HATPIN Music by Peter Rutherford
Book & Lyrics by James Millar
16 – 28 MAY Theatre Works, St. Kilda
THE HATPIN is set in Sydney in 1892 and tells the true story of single mother, Amber Murray (Gemma-Ashley Kaplan), who, in a desperate attempt to save the life of her beloved baby, finds herself embroiled in one of the most captivating and moving criminal trials in Australian history.
With the support of her free spirited friend, Harriet Piper (Samantha Morley), Amber fights the injustices of this tragedy to find hope and strength.
First produced in Sydney in 2008 starring CAROLINE O'CONNOR and BARRY CROCKER, THE HATPIN was presented later that year at the New York Musical Theatre Festival.
The 2011 Magnormos season will be the Melbourne premiere.
